Biography:
Prof Jiye Chen is an expert in computational fracture mechanics in engineering materials and structures. Prof Chen is the leader of the Materials, Structures and Geotechnics research group in the School of Civil Engineering and Surveying in the University of Portsmouth, UK. His research covers computational fracture mechanics, micro damage models, novel computational tools, and advanced experimental facilities to characterise, evaluate, predict and optimize the mechanical behaviour of engineering materials. His recent research includes a novel Extended Cohesive Damage Model (ECDM) for predicting multicrack propagation in fibre composites, sandwiches, steel reinforced concrete and aluminium, etc. under service conditions, and a novel Geotechnical Cohesive Damage Model (GCDM) in forecasting landslide occurrences under heavy rainfall conditions and potential damage areas. Prof Chen published over 50 international refereed journal and conference papers and book chapters. His research was funded by UK governmental funding organizations and leading industrial companies.
