Title: Environmental impact on anatomy of L-34 clone of Populus deltoidesBartr. Ex. Marsh from three different locations
Abstract:
Present study reveals about the impact of an environment on the development of cells (elements) i.e., anatomy development during its secondary growth and formation of mature wood in L-34 clone of Populus deltoides. The specimen of mature trees in the present study, opted through a Rudrapur, Uttarakhand (location-I), Nasarke, Gurdaspur, Punjab (location-II) and Bilaspur, Uttar Pradesh (location-III). Healthy trees, well-formed, attaining crown almost about 30 cm, out of which the discs were extracted for study material at 2.5 m above the ground, and with a similar differences from each tree. The discs softened, further wooden elements were procured via using standard Schultz’stechniques. The influence of environment n the anatomy of a tree was recorded through a microscopic study of wood properties. A physical property such as specific gravity was investigated. These properties are important for studying the trends that are influenced from core to periphery of each disc depending on the species and anatomical features. Collected data on wood anatomical properties were statistically analyzed for the sample standard deviation. Within-disc influence of environment during its development showed that the characters were having or yielding a value lying within limits between which variations is attributed to chance, but for pooled data statistically, significant result was shown for fiber length. The study concluded as a homogeneous appearance of secondary growth in the selected tree as well uniformity was recorded in analysis of wood elements from core to periphery.
