标题: Optical fiber sensors engineered with femtosecond lasers
摘要:

Femtosecond lasers have become a very powerful and convenient tool to fabricate micro-/nano- structures in different materials and waveguides. Based on refractive index modification, femtosecond laser inscription technique can directly fabricate a variety of structures such as gratings, interferometers and waveguides with great flexibility. In this talk, we will review our past and recent research work on the development of optical fiber sensors based on femtosecond laser inscription technique. We will discuss various kinds of micro-structures fabricated with femtosecond laser in optical fiber and demonstrated their applications as sensors for measuring different physical parameters.

简介:

Dr Xuewen Shu received his Ph.D. degree in optoelectronics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2000. From 2000 to 2001, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Photonics Research Group at Aston University, UK. Then, he spent two years with Indigo Photonics Ltd., UK, as a Senior Engineer from 2001 to 2003. From 2003 to 2013, worked as a Senior Research Fellow with the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies at Aston University, UK. In 2013, he joined Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics,  Huazhong University of Science and Technology as a Distinguished Professor. He has published over 200 papers in major international journals and conferences and also holds several European and U.S. patents. He serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Sensors Letters and other two journals. His research interests include laser based micro-/nano-fabrication, fiber gratings, optical fiber communications, fiber lasers and optical sensors.
